I don’t usually do this, but I need to be completely honest. The dark and gloomy mood of these photos has totally matched my vibes this week. When we took this it was rainy, foggy, freezing and overall pretty miserable (but the lighting was so great). As most of you know I am a die hard 49er fan– I am talking like emotionally dependent on them type of fan. If you follow any kind of sporting news, you will know that this has been an incredibly rough week for us 49er faithful.
I spent Sunday afternoon with tears streaming down my face when the news broke that Frank Gore was signing with another team. Then come Monday, I was met with the terrible news that my favorite player, maybe of all time, Patrick Willis, was retiring. While to most people, this is not a big deal at all. But to me, it’s everything. I hate to be a Debbie Downer, but the bad news just seems to never end. One of my favorite memories of Patrick was the 2007 49er team Christmas Party. My friend was working for them and took me as his date. When I met Pat, I was too nervous to say anything to him so I just hugged him instead. It was his rookie season, but he was already my favorite player. He was kind and humble from the beginning, and my heart is breaking at his decision to leave the game. I decided to stream his farewell press conference in one of my classes today. I told them, “When you guys are parents and you take your son to his first game at Levi’s Stadium you will look up at his retired jersey and remember this moment.”
This post was originally supposed to be about what I wear when I travel, but unfortunately, this is all I can think about. My drive to work today was very foggy– which is kind of how my brain feels right now. The visibility was awful and I couldn’t see very far ahead of me. Literally and figuratively. But my best friends sent me this quote in an attempt to cheer me up: “You will never be truly happy if you continuously hold onto the things that make you sad.” So with that, thank you for everything Patrick and Frank- I  miss you already.
P.S. aren’t these leggings the cutest things you’ve ever seen? #silverlining
