Two Peas in a Prada Summer Reads

Surprisingly, the question I get asked the most is, “What should I read?” This question comes from friends, family, readers, students, strangers. So here is exactly what to read this summer…

Beach Reads

Here’s To Us || Elin Hildebrand. In classic Hildebrand fashion, this book is about three women who were once married to the same man. Unfortunate circumstances bring these ladies together on the beautiful island of Nantucket. Don’t miss this one!

The Island House || Nancy Thayer. I read this book in one day in the pool at my parents’ house. It’s the perfect choice for summer. It’s the classic tale of two men fighting over one woman– with lots of drama in between.

The Weekenders || Mary Kay Andrews. This was the first book I read this summer. This one is a little more suspenseful than your typical beach read. It involves a good murder mystery and a man who was hiding a lot.

All Summer Long || Dorothea Benton Frank. This book follows around fabulous power couple, Nicholas & Olivia as they struggle with the decision to leave New York for Charleston.

Thrillers

The Girls || Emma Cline. Ever since I was younger, I’ve had a fascination with all things cult related. This fictional book explores a girl who naively joins a cult — set in San Francisco. I couldn’t put this one down.

Don’t You Cry || Mary Kubica. I would love to be inside the head of this woman — because this book may be her most twisted yet. A girl disappears in Chicago and her best friend is left to find out what happened to her.

Before the Fall || Noah Hawley. A plane carrying eleven passengers plunges into the ocean on its way back to New York City. Need I say more?

Truly Madly Guilty || Liane Moriarty. Okay, so this one isn’t out yet — but I preordered it months ago. If it’s anything like her last two, I’m in for a treat.

Can’t Miss

Sweetbitter || Stephanie Danley. It’s the oldest story in the world..small town girl moves to New York City. This book reminds me of one of my besties — Colleen. So this one gets extra points.

Rich and Pretty || Ruman Alam. This novel explores the idea of how friendships change when people “grow up” — incredibly relatable. An amazing debut by the author!

Modern Lovers || Emma Staub. The Skimm says this book is “Friends meets Almost Famous” – do I even have to say anything else?

First Comes Love || Emily Giffin. Giffin has such a knack for exploring relationships. This time, it’s two sisters who aren’t as close as they used to be. Driven apart by a tragic secret, this book explores sisterly love and the art of forgiveness.

For The Girlboss

Career Code || Hilary Kerr & Katherine Power.  The girl bosses behind Who What Wear dish out their secrets to success. Anyone who is the blogging, fashion, media world needs to read this book!

I Am That Girl || Alexis Jones. For anyone who is with me on the #womensupportingwomen train — this books is the epitome of that. The foreword was written by my longtime girl crush, Sophia Bush.

Big Magic ||Elizabeth Gilbert. The author of Eat, Pray Love is back in a much different way. This time she is helping inspire the creative minds that sometimes need a little push. For anyone who needs a little creativity boost, this one’s for you.

Leave Your Mark || Aliza Licht. I ate this book right up — I read it so quickly that I had to go back and read it again. It is saturated with tips & tricks to break into this crazy competitive business we call fashion & social media.
