Viva La Juicy: My Namesake

To be honest, I don’t really know where to start this post. It’s surreal to me that I’m even writing it. I know I know, everyone loved Juicy Couture. But I REALLY loved them. Emily also loved them — probably not as much as me, but the obsession was very real. So much so, that I can boldly say: there would be no blog without Juicy Couture. And for once, I’m not overexaggerating. So let’s start at the beginning….

It all started my senior year of high school. My dad and I drove from Reno to San Francisco to pick out my prom dress (there is no shopping in my hometown), and it was on this trip that I purchased my first Juicy suit. It was a nude terry one, and I remember it like it was yesterday. From there the situation escalated. And quickly. By graduation, I was only asking for Juicy things — I told my boyfriend at the time that he HAD to buy me the same dress and belt that Hilary Duff had. I even switched my jewelry from silver to gold because of Juicy. To this day, I will only wear gold. But back in high school, I was Tiffany silver all the way. I realize that these memories are making me sound like a spoiled brat… and I’m not even to the worst part yet. Thank god I have grown up. Fast forward a few months later at college orientation. I knew no one, I was new to college, new to California, the only thing I was certain about was that I looked damn cute with my Juicy outfit and bag. Someone tried to move my bag off the chair next to me so they could sit down, and I panicked. I literally screamed, “Noooooo…. My Juicy bag can not touch the ground,” as I grabbed it out of said strangers hand. Well…. people noticed. From that moment on I was known as “Juice” — a name that is still with me 13 years later. Looking back, this was not my proudest moment — but it does show how far I have come & how important Juicy was to me.

Someone who turned out to be one of my very best friends overheard this infamous comment of mine, and his entire family still calls me Juice to this day. Juicy Couture defined my entire four years of college. Emily and my dorm rooms were both COVERED in Juicy ads & bags. And it was literally all I wore. every. single. day.

In all seriousness, Emily and I would not be where we are today without Juicy Couture. Founded by two best friends, Pam & Gela were our biggest business inspirations. Although they don’t own the company anymore, I can’t see Juicy and not think about them. They singlehandedly started the athleisure trend — and industry that now has a cult following and is not going ANYWHERE.

When it came time for me to move on from this phase, I was heartbroken. I still remember the sadness I felt when I donated all of my tracksuits and dresses. But like any good trend, JUICY IS BACK! When I saw this photo of Kylie Jenner, I jumped for joy. I had heard rumblings that the line was making a comeback, but I thought it was too good to be true. But now that it’s officially back in stores and wesbites everywhere, I am elated. I am already planning my entire travel outfit to Italy in a few weeks around the black skinny pants.

When my order of this new Juicy gear arrived from Zappos, I literally cried when I put it on. I’m not proud to admit that, but I instantly felt transcended back to my college dorm room — and I truly felt at home. As someone who values comfort so much, nothing is more “me” than Juicy. I’m so glad it’s back — I truly feel reborn.
