I am so excited to introduce this new series here on the blog! When I turned 30 last year, I knew it was time to take better care of my skin. My skincare routine was pretty simple — and it didn’t involve products that were specifically for my skin’s needs. I couldn’t be more excited to be working with SkinSpirit to achieve the best possible skin.
One of my girlfriends started working at SkinSpirit recently and wouldn’t shut up about all of her new products and what I should be doing. I didn’t really believe her until I saw the drastic change in her skin. Of course, I was super jealous and needed to experience all of this for myself. I know I can’t be the only one who is curious about the secrets to perfect skin in my thirties. I thought this would be a great topic to share with you all because I know how frustrating and confusing it can be to know which treatment is right for you. Once a month, I will be going into Skin Spirit and trying out different treatments for my skin.
I went into the new SkinSpirit San Francisco location (in Presidio Heights on Sacramento Street) for a signature facial with Vanessa. We decided to start out this series with this particular treatment so she could assess my skin needs, and see what would be the next best steps for my skin. Before the treatment started, she asked me a lot of questions about my skin history, lifestyle and what I am looking to achieve with a new skincare routine. I really liked that she got to know me before my treatment because it felt so much more personalized and catered to what I needed.
She started off cleansing my skin with SkinCeuticals LHA cleanser which is meant to exfoliate, decongest pores and help brighten. She decided to do microdermabrasion to slough off dead skin and create a smooth canvas for the rest of the treatment. For people who have sensitive skin like me, I was a little nervous about the microdermabrasion, because it sounded so invasive. To my surprise, the gentle suction and exfoliation, not only felt good, but I could feel a change in texture immediately.
Next up was the papaya Skin Zyme Mask from Jan Marini, this was done to help remove any remaining dead skin cells and resurface the skin without irritation. After the mask, it was time for extractions. Although I am a big fan of Dr. Pimple Popper, let’s just say this was not my favorite part of my time with Vanessa. It was cathartic in its own way and had to be done.
After the extractions, she deep cleansed my skin one more time using Clean Zyme (good for daily exfoliation and resurfacing) and then applied a retinol mask. Vanessa was insistent that I get on a regular retinol nightly routine so that I had a healthier amount of cell turnover. While waiting for the mask to work its magic, Vanessa gave me an amazing and relaxing massage while my face was under the steamer. This was by far the best part!
We finished up the session with the most exciting but spicy part. She started off with SkinBrite which is meant to penetrate the skin’s layers to help illuminate and brighten any discoloration. Then it was time for a two-part chemical peel.
I had never had a chemical peel before and was so excited to try. I have seen some amazing results online and was excited to experience it for myself. The Skin Spirit chemical peels are designed to reduce discoloration caused by sun damage, clear up breakouts or smooth away the look of fine lines & wrinkles. Chemical peels are proven to noticeably improve your skin in more ways than one. First was a sensitive peel which is great for any person with sensitive skin. She used PCA Sensi Peel which is also meant to help brighten and improve skin’s texture. The second peel Vanessa used was the Dermaquest Retinol Peel — I could definitely feel this one working.
My skin felt super soft and new when I left SkinSpirit. The next few days, my skin peeled, and it got even softer! I noticed some of my discoloration had faded and my fine lines were definitely less noticeable.
