Becca Swim Be You

Ashley Zeal from Two Peas in a Prada shares the Becca Swim Be You initiative and talks about body image and how social media can influence society's ideals.

Here’s something you might not know about me: I used to NEVER take swimsuit photos from the side. I would try, but when I would see them I would always cry in shame. The truth is, behind my body positive and confident attitude, I was still always a little insecure about my body. I talked about how I kind of felt like a fraud in this post, but now I can truly say that I am proud to be posing from the side in this beautiful Becca suit that makes me feel all kinds of confident.

The truth is, even though I lost a little bit of weight, and finally started to figure out my diet, I’m still insecure at times. This was taken three days after I got back from New York. I had gained four pounds from eating pancakes and Shake Shack, and having a few too many tequila sodas. But that’s life — and I had an amazing trip. But then the reality set in that I had to shoot this swimsuit and I panicked. What if I was bloated from the flight? What if I hydrate too much that I look bloated? Blah blah blah…

I texted my nutrition coach in a panic and she talked me off the ledge. She told me to have some chicken for dinner, drink water, and go for a walk and that I’d be fine. She was right — it was all in my head. I have worked so hard and should be proud of my progress. But at the same time, I have always wanted to be 100% upfront with you and I know that I’m not the only one who deals with these kinds of insecurities.

I had planned on working out every day while on vacation in Scottsdale — I packed the clothes and everything. But guess what — I didn’t work out once and that’s okay. I took the time I needed to truly relax, catch up with my best friends, and spend some quality time with my fiance. I’m still not used to calling him that!

I am posting this in partnership with the Becca Swim Be You initiative. They are donating $2,000 to charity if they reach 250 posts with the hashtag #BeYOU, so I hope this post inspires at least one of you to use that hashtag and share your own story of body image with everyone. I know it’s not always the most comfortable topic, but I believe that social media has the power to help or hurt the cause, and I definitely want to be a part of the group of people that helps promote positive body image. Every single one of you is beautiful no matter what!
