Maternity Staples

San Francisco blogger, Ashley Zeal, from Two Peas in a Prada breaks down all her maternity staples. She is sharing all of her favorite maternity items so you can build a capsule wardrobe for pregnancy.

I shared a little bit on stories about how I am having a hard time dressing for pregnancy, because I already am the biggest size in most brands. So, maternity clothes were a necessity for me! I am still mixing and matching with a lot of my non-maternity items too, which is great, because I am not having to buy a TON of stuff. Today I am sharing my maternity staples so far. These are items that will hopefully always be in stock so you can come back to this post whenever you need to! I plan to update this post as I go with my seasonal finds as well, along with my favorite stores to buy maternity clothes!

Faux Leather Leggings

Spanx has always known the way to my heart, and they were actually the first brand I told I was pregnant! These are just like the original faux leather leggings, only with a full belly panel, which is exactly how I like them!

Zella Maternity Leggings

No surprise these are on the list. I wear their regular leggings all day every day. I can still fit in my usual size at week 18, but I can also wear the maternity ones already and be MUCH more comfortable! I started off buying two pairs, but I already want more because I wear them so much!

Tight Tank

These are so good layering over leggings with cardigans or a cute jacket. Also amazing to hide the fact that your jeans don’t button – speaking from experience, haha! I got a few of these – super cheap and they come in all the colors you need.

Long Sleeve Tee

This was Emily’s number one pregnancy top! She still wears it to this day! I ordered the blue and white one but realized that I would wear another color more, so I have the black on the way. It’s sooo soft and worth the money in my opinion! This is an amazing cheaper option if you are looking for a more fitted look.

Cardigan

I didn’t really find it necessary (yet) to buy maternity cardigans. I already have so many and they all still fit, so I am just using what I have, and picking up a few staple ones in colors that I don’t have that I can wear long after baby comes.

Body-Con Dress

When you start to show a little bit, tighter is better. That way people can tell it’s a bump and not just a few too many late-night Taco Bell runs! I have both the tank and long sleeve version of this dress. It’s non-maternity but also looks so cute with a bump! I love having an outfit I always know will look cute. So many ways to dress this up or down!

Duster

I love a good duster for a layering piece pregnant or not pregnant. It looks so good over jeans and a tee, a swimsuit, or over a body-con dress. I’ve worn it all of those ways. This one is actually a robe — so there ya go – already four ways to wear it.

Occasion Dress

You need one dress you can throw on for weddings, cocktail parties, etc. I got this one in three colors, fabrics! You can totally wear non-pregnant too!

Stretchy Pajamas

I am still wearing these from the NSale – I have three colors and I sized up. But I ordered these for when I get too big for the non-maternity ones. I put on my jammies the SECOND I get home. I used to be able to chill in leggings, but not anymore. The softer and looser the better!

Jeans

You are either a below the bump or all the way over the bump kinda girl when it comes to jeans, and let’s just say I want nothing to do with the under the bump ones. These are the first two pairs I found and loved, but I’m going to try some more of your recs and keep adding to this post!

Belly Boost

These belly wraps not only help support your belly, but they also keep your lotion and oils on (and not on your clothes). I already have a few stretch marks that came in, and so I am trying so hard to keep my belly super hydrated and these help so much! Also great to smooth under clothes!

Thighs Disguise

Pregnancy shapewear that isn’t crazy tight but works. Love this to smooth the belly and the bum, keep inner thighs from chafing, and also just give you a little bit of support underneath your clothes.

Upsie Belly Support Belt

This is a stronger version of the Belly Boost above. At first, I was like, how much can this thing help, but then I put it on and OMG! Especially after a crazy day on your feet this is a godsend. It helps me so much when we are packing/organizing!

Comfy Bra

I finally bit the bullet and spent the money on Emily’s favorite bras. These are all she wore after her kids and during pregnancy. And I totally get why — they are so comfy and soft. I actually just ordered a second one!

Slippers

I can’t emphasize this enough — you need cozy slippers. If your pregnancy is anything like mine – your feet will kill you and super early on. Mine aren’t necessarily swollen, but they are sooo sore. Especially at night. This started happening the first week I found out. I never walk around my house barefoot anymore, because why would I when I could walk on clouds instead.

Workout Tank

Right now, I still fit in all my workout clothes – miraculously. I think it’s because they’re all so stretchy. But I know I am probably reaching the end for tops at least. I found this one that grows with the bump and I am obsessed. It’s already in my drawer waiting for the day when I need it!

Joggers

Emily actually found these for me, and I ordered them the second she sent them! The over the belly panel is my jam and I got them in two colors! I sized up so they would be extra baggy & I wanted to be sure I can wear them all the way to the end of my pregnancy.

Slip-On Shoes

Not even half-way there and it’s already kinda hard to tie my shoes — well it’s hard to get up from tying my shoes LOL. Slip-on shoes have saved me, and you don’t have to sacrifice them not being cute!
