Sausage Balls Recipe

Reno blogger Ashley Zeal from Two Peas in a Prada shares her three-ingredient sausage balls recipe that can be served for breakfast, lunch or dinner!

Call me immature, but the name Sausage Balls just makes me giggle every time I say or type it. I shared this on stories briefly last week, but I got so many requests to post the recipe on the blog so here we are. I normally leave all of the recipes, cooking, and entertaining posts to Emily, but it’s about time I try some myself. It’s going to take some time to learn how to make my pictures look pretty, so be patient with me on that front! I didn’t know so many people would ask for this – so the photos were never meant for anywhere other than stories!

Sausage Balls Recipe

A little back story to this recipe – my in-laws came to stay with us over Christmas for the first time since we moved in. We were so happy to have them and we had the best time. I loved having both of our parents together! My mom and dad both recently had surgery, and I am pregnant AF, and so that left a few of the “hostessing” duties up in the air. It’s a tradition for my dad to cook Christmas Day breakfast, but he couldn’t this year because his shoulder isn’t healed yet. So we had to improvise. My husband is a VERY picky eater – who doesn’t eat eggs. And so my main dish, Emily’s Breakfast Casserole, was out for him. I knew I had to make something he could eat — but something easy and that would be good with the casserole. My massage therapist told me about Sausage Balls, and I looked up a few recipes to see how I wanted to make them! They were super easy to make, and a huge hit with the family. I definitely dug in before I took them over to my parents — I was afraid there weren’t going to be any left!

We ended up serving the casserole, sausage balls, pastries, fruit salad, and a mimosa bar – and it was perfect! If you want to dip these in something may I suggest syrup, ketchup, ranch or a mayo mustard mix. YUMMMM! I love this recipe because it can be an appetizer, side dish, or breakfast!

Sausage Balls

Ingredients:

1 (1-pound) package ground sausage (I used turkey sausage, and they were a little dry – I recommend pork for more fat)

3 Cups Bisquick

4 cups grated cheddar (I used the kind in the bag, but next time would grate it myself for more moisture)

Dash of salt and pepper

Milk (only add if your mix is too dry to form balls)

Directions:

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.

Spray a baking sheet with vegetable oil cooking spray.

Combine all ingredients in a large bowl.

Mix well with your fingers.

The mixture will be very crumbly. Form into 1 inch balls, squeezing the mixture so it holds together, then rolling it between the palms of your hands to form balls. If the balls won’t form you can slowly add a little bit of milk until you can work with them.

Place the balls on the baking sheet.

Bake for 18 to 20 minutes or until golden brown (my first batch was a little dry so I cooked the second round for a few minutes less). If you’re using pork, this time should be perfect!

To prevent sticking, move the balls with a spatula halfway through cooking.
